Sri Lanka to be made Asia’s education hub

- itnnews.lk

Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that the government is planning to make Sri Lanka the education hub in Asia.

The Minister said that this is the best time to realize the President’s dream of making Sri Lanka the centre of education in Asia. He noted that the Universities have to be disciplined. The unions of students, teachers and the non-academic staff should work together to achieve this goal.

There could be debate but those should result in better work. He said that discussions are currently underway with Austria, Norway, Japan and China to obtain interest free concessionary loans to fulfill shortcomings in universities.

The Minister expressed this view while participating in the 10th inter-university sports meet. It was held at the Sri Jayawardenapura University premises. The first, second and third positions were achieved by the Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura and the Moratuwa universities.

Minister C.B. Ratnayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Dr Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Vice Chancellor of the Sri Jayawardenapura University Dr. N.L.A. Karunaratne participated on the occasion.
