WARSAW – Alex Light hasn’t played a day of high school baseball since 2019, but he is preparing to have a very big 2021. The Warsaw Community High School senior endured the spring call-off like everyone else, but Indiana Tech still had him on the radar, and offered Light a chance to play at the next level.

Light is signing his National Letter of Intent with the Warriors, taking his talent an hour east to the Fort Wayne campus.

As a sophomore, Light served the Tigers primarily as a middle infielder. In 19 games, the light hitting Light posted eight hits, but two doubles and six RBI as well as four runs scored.

In the field, Light was given 54 total chances with 25 putouts and 21 assists.

“Alex does everything he’s asked to do without complaint,” noted Warsaw baseball head coach Andy Manes. “He is the epitome of a team player and a hard worker. Looking forward to seeing him at Indiana Tech.”

In the classrooom, Light carries a 3.3 GPA and looks to study sports management at Tech.

The Warriors are coached by Kip McWilliams, who is entering his 14th season with the program. The team went 11-5 in a shortened 2020 spring season. McWilliams has won 440 games in his coaching career and the Warriors have won five Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championships under his watch. Indiana Tech is an NAIA member.

“I chose Indiana Tech because it was a great environment and had great culture,” Light said. “They are a decent-sized school, and it’s close to home.”
