UK PM assures Sri Lanka counterpart assistance with climate change, exports
ECONOMYNEXT – United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday (30) assured support to crisis-riddled Sri Lanka, particularly in tackling climate change and assisting the island nation in becoming an export-oriented open economy, his Sri Lanka counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
Wickremesinghe tweeted Monday evening that Johnson had made this assurance during a discussion held that afternoon.
During a discussion with @BorisJohnson today, I briefed him on the situation in Sri Lanka. He pledged to support us especially in the fields of tackling climate change and assisting Sri Lanka in becoming an export oriented open economy.

Further details were not forthcoming from the Prime Minister’s office, and it is unclear whether the UK has pledged any financial assistance to Sri Lanka as it battles its worst economic crisis since Independence from the British. (Colombo/May30/2022)
