Suspect arrested over Atulugama child’s murder further remanded

The suspect arrested over the murder of a child in Atulugama has been ordered to be further remanded until 9th June.

The 29-year-old suspect, who was remanded till today, was produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.

The court ordered that he be further remanded till the 9th of June.

The suspect is said to be a resident of Atulugama in Bandaragama.

Fatima Ayesha was reported missing in Atulugama last Friday and her body was found on Saturday.

The 9-year-old girl was believed to have been abducted and killed.

Investigations revealed that the child was not raped but was forcibly drowned.

Fatima Ayesha was reported missing after she went to a nearby shop to purchase some items.

CCTV footage showed the girl going to the shop to purchase the goods before she went missing.

Her body was found in a marshland close to her house. (Colombo Gazette)
