Work of domestic mechanisms on reconciliation reviewed
The Government has reviewed progress on the work of domestic mechanisms in relation to reconciliation and human rights in Sri Lanka.
Foreign Minister, Professor G.L. Peiris co-chaired the meeting with the Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Ministry said today.
During the meeting, work related to the Office on Missing Persons, Office of Reparations, Office of National Unity and Reconciliation, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and the Sustainable Development Council were discussed, and avenues were explored to expedite work under these mechanisms as well as resolve any challenges that these institutions face.
The Foreign Minister appreciated their work during these challenging times, and stated that regular meetings to review the progress will be held.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attorney General’s Department, Sri Lanka Police, Office on Missing Persons, Office of Reparations, Office of National Unity and Reconciliation, Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and the Sustainable Development Council participated at the meeting.
