Chief Opposition Whip and Kandy District SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella yesterday claimed that over 25 SLPP MPs had pledged their support to the SJB candidate Sajith Premadasa at tomorrow’s vote in Parliament to elect the next President of the country.

Addressing the media at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo, Kiriella said the SLPP had gone disarray without leadership. “People do not need another SLPP President to lead this country out of the present crisis. They neither need an SLPP Prime Minister. The MPs using their votes at Wednesday’s election should keep in mind whether they uphold the wishes and aspirations of people who had elected them. The situation in the country has changed drastically from the time of the last general election and now. The consequences that the MPs would face if they vote against the people’s demands are quite clearly foreseeable. Those who act against their voters will face unfortunate consequences. Therefore, the MPs should take this election very seriously and act according to the people’s aspirations,” Kiriella said.
