US envoy meets President and discusses crisis

The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe today and discussed the crisis in the country.

The Ambassador tweeted saying that the meeting took place at the Presidential Secretariat today.

Julie Chung said that the new President takes office at a time when Sri Lanka stands at a crossroads.

“We discussed how it arrived at this point of economic and political crisis, and how we can work together to navigate toward a brighter future for all,” she said.

She said that both countries and the people have been friends and partners for more than 70 years.

The Ambassador said that the relationship will flourish in a Sri Lanka that embraces good governance, respects human rights, and listens to the aspirations of its people. (Colombo Gazette)
