National Council sub-committee suggests using 87 octane petrol by trishaws and motorcycles

The National Council sub-committee on identifying short and medium-term programmes, related to economic stabilization recently, discussed the possibility of making available for the use of trishaws and motorcycles 87 Octane fuel produced at the Kolonnawa refinery.

The committee said that the electricity tariff must remain stable, and in line with other countries in the region, Sri Lanka should have competitive industries and encourage investors. The committee is headed by MP Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The MPs added that steps should be taken to minimise the large gap between the time of high demand and the time of low demand for electricity.A number of academics presented their views and suggestions the use of alternative energy sources to meet the country’s energy needs. They also presented various ideas and proposals on strengthening public transport in the country.

Chairman Ranawaka said that the views and proposals pertaining to the power and energy sector would be presented to the National Council.Prof. Anura Wijayapala, the former chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, and  of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. Amal S. Kumarage of the University of Moratuwa, and Dr. Dimantha de Silva of the University of Moratuwa, presented their views and proposals.
