The England Lions tour of Sri Lanka turned out to be a triumphant wicket taking foray for young Dushan Hemantha who spun a web over the touting ODI team’s frontline batting in the 2-1 series triumph in decorating himself with the Best Bowlers award. It was indeed enlightening to hear hear the former St. Peter’s College find and BRC and Dambulla all-rounder voice to the Sri Lanka Cricket website in the post match revelling that his key wicket taking weapons were the leg break and flipper.

“The wicket played better in the final game than in the previous two which enabled me to maximise the advantage to good effect. I reduced the pace mixing the leg break and flipper,” said the 28-year old. It is revealing that Hemantha forged his career to schoolboy recognition at St. Peter’s playing softball cricket when ‘I used the softball to practice bowling the leg break.’

He went on to reveal that a career he forged as a batting all-rounder took a new turn for the better ‘when I changed to a bowling all-rounder in the last two years. It has stood me in good stead.” He enthused that he looked forward to take his career to the next level in all formats of the game to gaining national recognition to perform on the big stage. “I expect to impress in any format in domestic cricket. The National Super League semi final is the next big game to performing well,” he quipped.
