Sri Lanka sweep to innings and 10-run triumph over Ireland to make it two in a row

Sri Lanka routed Ireland by an innings and 10 runs in the second test to make it two in a row shortly before tea on the final day at the Galle International Cricket Stadium today. Ireland was dismissed for 202 in the second innings as the Lankans emphatically reversed the early tide when the Irish held sway on a massive 492 following  a 704 for 3 run avalanche by the  host’s.
The final result was the eventual devastation of Ireland by the three pronged spin-pace Lankan attack with Ramesh Mendis firing out five of the batters at a cost of 64 runs with pacer Asitha Fernando cashing in with 3 for 30 off 11.3 overs and Prabath Jayasuriya 2 for 88 from 32 to follow his first innings 5 for 174 in proving ptoved to be the visitors tormentor earning the Player of the Match award as in the first test.
The left armer went on to become the fastest spin bowler in test cricket to take 50 wickets.
Henry Tector top scored for Ireland with 85 off 189 inclusive of 8 boundaries and 3 sixes and Skipper Andrew Balbirnie made 46 off 102 hitting 5 boundaries, but the measure of resistance fell short of going the distance.
Kusal Mendis was adjudged Player of the Series for his first test century and second test double century.
