Presenting a ‘case study’ at the recent Global Dubai Tea Forum held in the UAE, Dr. Thusitha Bandara, Director – Low Country Operations, Sustainability and Research & Development, Bogawantalawa Tea Estates PLC, addressed various issues related to the ‘sustainability of the tea industry’ and how it was handled at estates belonging to Bogawantalawa. It was the 27th of April and Dr. Bandara, a panelist at the gala event, was addressing a distinguished gathering at the prestigious Dubai Marina location.

The topic was ‘Sustainability: From packaging and plastics to transparency and Fair Trade’ and he engaged with the other panelists in discussions on “environmentally friendly plantation management and wholly sustainable manufacturing processes” that were practiced back in the estates within the Bogawantalawa Valley, an iconic location that was globally renowned as the Golden Valley of Ceylon Tea.

As a thought-leader and stellar functional expertise in sustainability in Sri Lanka’s tea industry, Dr. Bandara explained how he has adopted Climate-Smart Agriculture across all Bogawantalawa’s Tea plantations with a view to addressing the challenges of climate-change.

Attending the Global Dubai Tea Forum 2023, Dr. Bandara was accompanied by Narendra Weerakoon, Vice President – Business Development & International Marketing at Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon.

A global pioneer in climate-positive teas and internationally recognized as the World’s First Climate Positive Tea Company, Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon is well versed in sustainable cultivation, and this is not the first time Dr. Bandara has addressed the subject at international symposiums as this.
