Panadura SC, led by former Sri Lanka cricketer Indika de Saram, shocking BRC by a 2-wicket win despite having been led by their opponents on the first innings by 152 runs was a significant feature of the weekend’s SLC Major League Tournament matches. Panadura’s Rajeewa Weerasinghe set the stage with the ball scything BRC with 6 wickets for 69 and Nimesh Vimukthi 3 for 43 in bundling out BRC for 133 in their second essay. Chasing a target of 286, Panadura’s batsmen performed a remarkable job in getting home on half centuries by Raminda Wijesooriya 75, skipper Indika de Saram 62 and Roshan Wijenayake 55.

Tamil Union’s Dhananjaya de Silva came trumps up in tilting the scales his side’s way to a resounding 148-run win over ACE Capital CC  following low scoring first innings exchanges by top scoring as in the first innings with 87 off 129 balls hitting 6 boundaries and a six at the FTZ Complex, Katunayake.

Other victorious teams were CCC, NCC and Bloomfield recorded outright wins in fixtures yesterday.

ASHIAN DANIEL 12 WICKETS

Ashian Daniel claimed a match bag of 12-wickets in propelling NCC to victory over Air Force in their Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tournament fixture at the FTZ Complex Katunayake yesterday.

ASELA GUNARATNE BACK IN FORM WITH SECOND TON

A noteworthy feature was former Sri Lanka player Asela Gunaratne’s comeback to form striking his second century in the tournament 112 off 123 balls containing 14 boundaries and a six as Army SC responded with 364 for 7 to Galle CC’s 408 in what petered out to a tame draw at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

DASUN SHANAKA 67 OFF 36 FOR SSC

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka ODI captain Dasun Shanaka hogged the limelight stroking a whirlwind 67 off 36 balls powered by 5 sixes and 4 boundaries as SSC declared the second innings on 285 for 5 in the high scoring drawn affair against Kandy Customs CC who were game to the task responding with 304 for 5 in their second essay chasing 428 for victory.

Chanaka Komasaru’s 8 wickets in an innings came to naught with Bloomfield winning by two-wickets at Surrey Grounds, Maggona.
