Sri Lanka T20 Captain Wanindu Hasaranga vented his disapproval of social media comments about Sri Lanka cricketers when he declined to field questions by certain sections of the media during yesterday’s confab by Sri Lanka Cricket to recognise its main sponsor Nippon Paints of the tour of Zimbabwe as well as other sponsor partners.

“I don’t like to reply to social media comments,” voiced Hasaranga who was asked at yesterday’s sponsors confab if he had recalled Angelo Mathews out of retirement for the opening game against Zimbabwe. “Angelo Mathews has not retired and is a player who is still available and there is no reason for me to request for him. . The fact is that it is not easy for a player to come out of retirement, and yesterday we saw the value in Angelo Mathews by his performance.,” he pointed out.

Hasaranga, who led Sri Lanka to a nerve tingling last ball win over Zimbabwe in his maiden tilt in the big boots, said that it was a great start and he was looking to sounding the winning board in the next two games as well with Sri Lanka set to take on Zimbabwe today in the second game at the R. Premadasa International Stadium.

To questions that his side had just scraped through in Sunday’s series opener, he said, “The main thing is that we won.’

As to the 2024 T20 World Cup, he said that there was about five months more to work on a compatible winning combination. “We don’t have that many internationals ahead, but we look forward to gelling a winning combination.”
