DVB-T2 digital technology to be introduced
The Government has said that DVB -T2 digital technology will be introduced in Sri Lanka in 2015. The Media Ministry has focused its attention on the introduction.
A Committee has been appointed to introduce the technology. According to the recommendations of the committee the new technology has been identified as suitable for Television channels in Sri Lanka. Currently the TV channels use analog technology for transmission. With the usage of DVB-T2 technology, the transmission will be more efficient and available for a wider frequency range. Secretary to the Ministry of Media and Information W.B. Ganegala has said that the introduction of the technology may take nearly five years. The technology will be introduced in several phases. The first phase will be implemented in the Western Province.
