Only 6 political parties in present Parliament – The Speaker
The new Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, making his inaugural address after being elected to Parliament today (1st), said there were only six political parties in the new Parliament.
The six parties are the UNP, UPFA, TNA, JVP, SLMC and EPDP.
Out of these six political parties the UNP and the UPFA are to jointly form the government while SLMC and EPDP are expected to join it.
As such, according to the Parliamentary tradition, the party with the highest number of seats in the opposition would get the post of the Leader of the Opposition and most probably TNA would get the post say political analysts.
