Proposal to increase number of cabinet ministers passed in Parliament
The proposal to increase the number of cabinet ministers to 48 was passed today, September 3, following a debate in parliament.
Though according to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution the number of cabinet ministers should not exceed 30 ministers: Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, presented a proposal to parliament seeking to enhance the cabinet under a National Government.
One hundred and forty three (143) votes were cast in favour of the proposal while 16 votes were cast against it.
