Two companies in the Hayleys Group’s fibre sector won four awards at National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka’s 2010 National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA).
Lignocell (Pvt.) Ltd., a global leader in the media industry and BonTerra Lanka Ltd., a pioneer manufacturer and exporter of Stitched Erosion Control Blankets (ECBs) shone at this year’s awards gala at the Colombo Hilton by winning two silver awards, a bronze award and a merit award.
Lignocell won two Silver awards in the Manufacturing Non Traditional Exports Sector and in the Medium Category while BonTerra won Bronze in the Small Category and a Merit Award in the Agriculture and Plantation Sector.
Performances in key areas including business and financial growth, global reach, knowledge integration, technological investment, capacity building, performance management, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility were considered for the NBEA.
These awards honour businesses that contribute towards the country‘s development through excellent business practice.
“Being adjudged a leader in ethical practices, innovation and business performance, is a noteworthy achievement for these companies,” said Lignocell CEO Wasaba Jayasekara.
“This achievement will further enhance our reputation in the export market and provide impetus to our growth aspirations,” he added.
Incorporated in 1990, Lignocell (Pvt.) Ltd. produces briquettes, bales, blocks, grow bags and hydroponics products for media applications.
The company exports its products to USA, UK, Italy, Portugal, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Canada.
BonTerra Lanka, a joint venture with BonTerra Weiland GmbH, “a natural fibre producer” and Hayleys Exports PLC, produces stitched, heavy 3D, heavy PP, light PP, combine and natural blankets for use in horticulture for erosion control and roof greening applications.
The other Hayleys Fibre sector companies are Hayleys Exports PLC, Volanka Exports Ltd., Toyo Cushion Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. and Chas P Hayley.
