First tourists for the New Year accorded warm welcome
2011 is Tourism Year. The first group to arrive in the island today was accorded a warm welcome.
Many plans have been prepared under the theme “Commemorating the 2011 Tourism Year”. 2011 was declared Tourism year under the guidance of the President for the progress of the Tourism industry. The main target of the promotion programmes is to attract over 700 thousand tourists. The first group of tourists was given a rousing welcome at the Katunayake International Airport today. The first tourist was offered the opportunity of visiting places of special interest. The offer was made by the Tourism Promotion Bureau. In 2011, Sri Lanka tourism will be offering surprise packages to the 250, 000th, 500,000th, 600,000th and 700,000th tourist that arrives in the island to mark Refreshingly Sri Lanka visit 2011. Deputy Minister r Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Chairman fo Sri Lanka Tourist Board Dr. Nalaka Godahewa and several others were present at the Airport.
