Over 1000 University lecturers have not returned

The Ministry of Higher Education has said more than 1000 university lecturers who went abroad for higher studies have not returned to the island.

The lecturers have entered foreign universities to obtain doctorates and other postgraduate degrees. They are expected to return to the island following the stipulated period. The Ministry of Higher Education said that more than thousand lecturers have remained overseas in contravention of the terms and conditions of their contracts. The Secretary to the Ministry said that required action is being taken to bring them back.
