Spill gates of Rantembe Reservoir are opened
The sluice gates of Rantambe reservoir in Randenigala have been opened with the heavy rains experienced in Upcountry areas.
Duty Engineer of the Randenigala Reservoir H.M. Kalubanda said three sluice gates were opened by three meters this morning. Accordingly 500 cubic meters of water is being released. The water is directed to the Rantambe Reservoir. Opening of the sluice gates poses a flood threat in Hasalaka in Minipe and Manampitiya areas. The Irrigation Engineer called on the people to maintain vigilance. Meanwhile all sluice gates of the Inginiyagala Senanayake Samudraya have been opened after 16 years. Five sluice gates were opened last morning due to incessant rains. Our representative says that the people who live on the banks of the Galoya have been evacuated. A programme has been launched to provide them relief.
