Access roads to Hambantota Airport under constructions

Sri Lanka’s Second International Airport is coming up at Mattala in Hambantota. Construction of access roads to the Airport has now begun.

The Second International Airport at Hambantota is a pledge given in the Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version. This dream is now becoming a reality. At the same time the rebuilding of 13 domestic airports within the country has commenced. All these activities come under the mega development programme. The Airport is being constructed after clearing shrubs in the area. It is being built as an environment-friendly Airport. The location near the Pahala Mattala Village does not include any habitat. The work including its blue print and construction is the brainchild of the Engineers of the Airport and Aviation Services Company Limited. Financial assistance comes from the Chinese Government. The estimate cost of the project is 209 million US Dollars. The launch of construction of the access roads to the Airport took place under the patronage of the Speaker, Chamal Rajapaksa. The Speaker said the new Airport will open 1500 direct and 50,000 indirect job opportunities. The entire country will receive the benefits of developing the Hambantota District

Minister Priyankara Jayaratne said that the Construction work is being launched in two stages.

Ministry Secretary K.V.P.R. Silva and Chairman of the Airport and Aviation Services Company Prasanna Wickremasuriya were present.
