Samurdhi Officers Ask For Non-Contributory Pension Scheme
Samurdhi officers’ trade unions have rejected the contributory pension scheme for public sector employees and has agreed to a non-contributory scheme.
The government has proposed a contributory pension scheme to public sector employees who were not eligible to receive pensions.
The Samurdhi Development Officers Union (SDOU) has told the media that the Samurdhi officers were currently registered as EPF and ETF contributors, but the system would be subjected to a change if the new scheme was implemented.
General Secretary of the Union, Chamara Maddumakaluge has said that they have asked the government for a proper pension scheme after rejecting the proposed scheme.
According to Maddumakaluge, the union had agreed to a non-contributory pension scheme.
