National Drug Regulatory Authority Bill To Parliament
The Health Ministry has said that a National Drug Regulatory Authority Bill will be presented to Parliament in July this year.
The Bill is to be presented with the aim of regulating the pharmaceutical trade and industry in the country.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has told the media that certain pharmaceutical companies that were to supply drugs to the state health service through a tender procedure in the past 10 years still supplied inadequately.
According to the Minister some of the key issues faced are the non supplying of drugs on time and the drugs that are supplied being of low quality.
Sirisena has said there was a shortage of 80 varieties of drugs in Sri Lanka.
Although there have been many attempts in the past to implement a national drug policy, it has failed.
