Estate Sector TUs And Management To Meet On The 29th
Trade unions affiliated to the estate sector and the management of private estates is to meet on April 29 to hold further discussions on reaching an agreement on a salary hike.
The unions and the management of private estates met yesterday for a discussion, but failed to reach an agreement.
The main signatory to the collective agreement between the estate sector trade unions and the management of private estates, the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) has said yesterday’s discussion was an exploratory session, where both parties discussed the present situation in the tea industry.
The two-year collective agreement lapsed on March 31.
The current daily wage of an estate sector worker is Rs. 450. Another group of estate sector unions are trying to get the daily wage increased to Rs. 700.
