Cricket Vice captain resigns
Mahela Jayawardana has stepped down as Vice Captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team.
Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Nishantha Ranatunge announced that Mahela Jayawardena submitting his letter of resignation had stated that he had no intention of holding on to the post of Vice Captain. He has said that he accepted the post of Vice Captain only till the World Cup ended. He added that Sri Lanka Cricket should now consider a new Vice Captain. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara stepped down yesterday. He handed in his letter of resignation, citing the need for the team to be led by a player at his peak, at the next World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
Meanwhile, reports say that Sri Lanka Cricket plans to appoint a new Captain and Vice-Captain to the National team within two weeks.
Sri Lanka has no immediate international cricket fixtures as the Indian IPL tournament begins on Friday.
