Five-year tourism plan to maximize the post-war upturn

Sri Lanka Tourism will launch a five-year Master Plan this week. Its purpose is to maximize the post-war upturn.

The five-year master plan is also known as the ‘tourism development plan.’ It will outline the next steps forward as seen by the industry.” Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Nalaka Godahewa said the plan is scheduled to cover the period from 2011 to 2016. It will help the industry in their efforts to move forward and embrace the targeted number of 2.5 million tourists by the end of the period.

Mr. Godahewa said the plan would put forward a wide array of visions and decisions to help the journey forward an easier one. In 2010, Sri Lanka achieved its highest tourist arrival figure of 650,000, up by 46% over the previous year. In the first four months of 2011, arrivals growth was 41% to 278,959 whilst the industry is gearing to attract 2.5 million tourists by 2016.
