Doug Nye, longtime journalist at The State, dies
Doug Nye, a former writer and editor for The State and the Columbia Record, died Sunday morning after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Nye retired in 2004 after serving as a sports writer, editor and television editor at both the Columbia Record and The State.
He was 69.Nye, who was born in Augusta, Ga. but moved to the Midlands at the age of 4, graduated from Furman University in 1964. Nye spent 35 years with The State and the Columbia Record, serving first as a sports writer, then editor. He was The State's television editor for 17 years. After retiring in August 2004, Nye continued to write, and also produced a show called "Time Machine" on ETV.Nye co-wrote the documentary "When Cowboys Were Kings," that aired on the History Channel in 2003.
