Petrol issue sorted out – Minister
Minister Susil Premajayantha has said that the issue in relation to the quality of petrol which has surfaced in certain areas has been eliminated. He said that the supply of fuel to vehicles in all areas has returned to normality. The Minister said that a Special Committee made an urgent purchase of 20 thousand tons of fuel to prevent a shortage. By now, the level of petrol in the storage tank had dropped to the base of the tank. Before the release of the 20 thousand tons of fuel, every oil cargo vessel which reaches the island was being tested at two locations. It had been confirmed that there was nothing wrong in the specification of the oil that was imported. The Minister mentioned that this fuel was pumped into the tanks when the level was very low. As a result the sediments surfaced and at some places water had seeped into the tanks due to rain. Following its reaction, such instances were initially reported from areas such as Passara and Ginigathena and problems had been reported in some vehicles. However the Minister said that there was no issue at the moment. He went on to say that all bowsers before leaving Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela Terminals were being subject to tests.
