CONTINUED JAPANESE ASSISTANCE TO SRI LANKA
Economic support extended by Japan has earned accolades from the Economic Development Minister. Japan has given an assurance that it will continue to assist Sri Lanka to further economic development.
This assurance was given by the Senior Vice President of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency Kenso Oshima when he called on Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The meeting took place at the Economic Development Ministry. JICA is already supporting many development projects, countrywide including the North and the East. These include the Kal-adi Bridge, the Southern Express Highway and the many development projects mooted in the Jaffna and Mannar Districts. JICA is also involved in the preparation of a digital map which incorporates economic development activities in the North and geographical information. This also came up for discussion between Mr. Oshima and the Minister.
During his stay in Sri Lanka Kenzo Oshima will inspect some of the local rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in the Northern Province carried out with JICA assistance..
