DeMint says he likely won’t run for reelection

U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint spoke to the Columbia Rotary Club Monday afternoon and reiterated that he does not plan to run for reelection in 2016.

Responding to a question about term limits, DeMint said:

“I limited myself to six years in the house, and I’m going to limit myself, pending some unforeseen circumstances, to 12 in the Senate,” DeMint said. “If you see the finish line you can give it all you got.”

DeMint also said he has no desire to run for president.

“I’m the only senator who does not see a president when I look in a mirror,” DeMint said, to laughs from the capacity crowd. “I’m looking for someone better.”
