Colombo: The Elections Department is to make a final decision on a date to hold elections for two local government bodies in uncleared areas of the North when the Elections Commissioner meets with secretaries of political parties Thursday.

While elections for 23 remaining local government bodies are scheduled to be held on 8 October, elections for the Puthukudiyiruppu Pradeshiya Sabha and the Maritime Pattu Pradeshiya Sabha in the Mullaitivu District in the Northern Province have been postponed.
Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohammed said the final decision regarding the holding of elections for these two local government bodies will be made after tomorrow’s meeting with the party general secretaries.
The demining process has not been completed yet in the areas covered by the two local government bodies.
