Minister Criticizes SLSI
Trade Minister Johnston Fernando says the imported cement stocks fromPakistanthat created much controversy were released by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) without consulting the Consumer Affairs Authority, Customs Department and distributing agents.
Fernando has criticized the SLSI for not consulting authorities before approving the distribution of cement stocks.
He has said the imported cement stocks were not released on the request of any party, as has been alleged.
Fernando has said the matter has been raised Science and Technology Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi since the SLSI was under her purview.
According to him, local cement companies were creating cement shortage for an artificial price hike.
