The world’s largest sewing thread and needlecraft supplies manufacturer and marketer, Coats Thread PLC is also a key member of Sri Lanka’s apparel vertical integration industry, and a longstanding supporter of fashion and design.

Coats recently extended its patronage towards Academy of Design (AOD), by collaborating with many ventures taken on by the school.
Through this collaboration, Coats intend to integrate their technology and knowledge in colour physics with fashion design through AOD designers.  Coats Thread Plc has provided AOD with a different variety of threads of vibrant colours, and also is due to educate AOD’s young designers on colour physics through a series of special lectures. “By collaborating with AOD, we support innovation in fashion and design as both a patron and a knowledge provider. By educating the young fashion designers of the school, we will be contributing to the creation of a creative generation who have the knowledge to utilise available technology,” Giles Watkins, Managing Director of Coats Thread in Sri Lanka said.
AOD’s Principal Karen MacLeod stated the school has always been keen on affiliating design with the technology for the future.
“AOD’s design philosophy is current and sophisticated. Therefore, we constantly need to exercise creativity with technology. Coats Thread is a great supporter of design, and their use of technology in thread colouring is top notch. What they will contribute to AOD, will be for the entire local apparel industry when our graduates join the industry in the future,” she said.
Coats Thread has extended its support to many ventures including the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2011 organised by AOD. Coats PLC will continue to support the progression of the apparel industry, fashion and design through these projects.
