EPF assets to reach Rs. 1 trillion
Sri Lanka’s Employees Provident Fund’s asset value is expected to reach the Rs. 1 trillion mark during this year, announced the Central Bank.
The Bank says as of 31st of August this year the total assets of the EPF have grown up to Rs 976 billion.
According to the Central Bank this is an annual growth of 14.6%.
92% of the fund has been invested in Government securities while 7% of its assets have been invested in equities and 1% in debt instruments of corporates.
Central Bank says during the last 5 years the total value of the fund has experienced a steady growth enabling the EPF to pay a higher rate of return to its members compared to other investment alternatives available in the country.
During the year 2010, nearly 210,000 new employees have registered with the EPF.
