RTI Bill needs 2/3rd majority – SC
The Supreme Court has stated that certain sections of the Right to Information Bill are inconsistent with the Constitution and it needs a two third majority to be adopted. This was said by the Speaker in Parliament today (3rd).
Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka presented the draft Bill to Parliament on 24th March.
The Supreme Court has further determined that the bill can be passed with a simple majority if the clauses mentioned by the court are amended.
Many political analysts have raised objections to the bill stating it would curtail media freedom and the intention of the in presenting the bill is to flowing the message of the opposing ideology to the masses.
