National Cricket team joins flood relief efforts
The Sri Lanka National team expresses their solidarity with the nation. Donates Rs. 1 million to aid flood relief through Cricket Aid.
Funds disbursed for potable water, medical supplies and other essentials. Immediate relief measures being coordinated.
In a short message to the nation aired on television and via social media, captain Angelo Matthews expressed the distress of the national team, away in England and said “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the floods and landslides …. we love you all and our thoughts and prayers are with you” in the face of the widespread damage and loss of life and livelihood caused by the catastrophic and incessant rains. The team wore black armbands as they opened their tour today in honour of those who have lost their lives.
The Sri Lanka National team, currently playing their first test of the Investec Test Series in UK, have made a donation of Rs. 1 Million to assist in national flood relief efforts through Cricket Aid. Cricket-Aid, has commenced immediate relief operations, and is disbursing the funds initially via 500 x aid packages containing the following items:
- * Potable Water
- * Bed Sheet
- * Undergarments Total Value Rs. 1650/- per pack
- * Towel * Sanitary Napkins
- * Skirt/Sarong
- * Mat
