Beauty salons to be inspected from today
Beauty salons island-wide will be inspected for unregistered beauty products from today, Director of Cosmetic Devices and Drug Regulatory Authority Dr. Hemantha Beneragama told Timesonline.
Dr. Beneragama said the decision was made after a woman from Negombo died of an allergic reaction to a bleaching cream applied at a salon.
He said there are over 5000 beauty salons in the country and about 10,000 barber shops.
Food and Drug Inspectors will be conducting the raids during the month of November.
“All Provincial Directors of Health, District Directors of Health, Medical Officers of Health have been instructed to conduct inspections throughout the year as they are also authorized officers under the Cosmetics Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority Act of 1980,”he said.
He said legal action will be taken against salons that use unregistered products and use unhygienic equipments.
