World Bank Vice President for South Asia meets Economic Development Minister The Vice President of the World Bank for South Asia Ms. Isabel Guerrero yesterday (2) met Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development at the Ministry of Economic Development.

The World Bank has been primarily focusing on developing the island’s
energy, transport, telecom, health, education sectors among many others.
The Bank is currently operating a 4 year country assistance program running from 2008 to 2012, which aims to create opportunities for equitable growth and economic development and improve competitiveness and the investment climate etc.
The discussion between the Minister and World Bank vice president were centered on vocational education, tank renovation, electricity sector development, FDI inflows and tourism development. The World Bank Country Director to Sri Lanka Ms. Diarietou Gaye also participated at this occasion.
