LLRC REPORT TO BE HANDED OVER TO PRESIDENT
The final Report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission will be handed over to the President tomorrow.
The President appointed the Commission in May last year to analyse matters which are necessary for the reconciliation of the nation in order to enthrone lasting peace in the country following the end of the war. Since then the Commission held sittings for nearly one and half years in various areas including Colombo, the North and the East. Various groups including officers in the battlefront, civilians of the North and the East, scholars in various fields and religious leaders testified before the Commission. It also took the initiative of visiting several areas and observing the situation there.
The term of the Commission drew to a close last Tuesday. Accordingly its final report is scheduled to be presented to the President. Meanwhile the Commission has decided to hand over the audio tapes and the relevant documents gathered by it during 57 sessions to the National Archives.
