The Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), a coalition partner of Sri Lanka’s governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), said it regretted the Government’s move to devalue the rupee in the 2012 Budget.

Senior LSSP member and Senior Minister for Technology Prof. Tissa Vitharana has said that while socialism would not be good for the country that is on a path to development, a mixed economy would provide the best situation.
He has remarked that the LSSP requests a Rs. 2,500 increase in salaries for public sector employees and that the minimum wage of the private sector should be Rs. 12,500.
The Minister has observed that the Government has completely forgotten the private sector worker in the 2012 Budget.
According to Prof. Vitharana, the Government should also take measures to remove taxes imposed on all essential items.
