News1st’s Think Again campaign meets disappointed citizens in Kegalle, Badulla, Trincomalee
Mass frustration with elected representatives has become a common theme that has been highlighted to us, throughout the News 1st Think Again campaign.The campaign, which encourages a discourse among the public on civil responsibility, and encourages the citizenry to review their decisions at the ballot box, got underway in the Kegalle, Badulla and Trincomalee districts today, Monday June 27.
Our team in the Kegalle District commenced the Think Again campaign at the Siri Seelawimala Viharaya in Dorawaka.The people of Dorawaka went to the polling station last year, anticipating that their village would be developed.
Our team visited areas including Warakapola, Madeniya, Udabhage, Ganegama and Yakdehimulla, where the citizenry echoed these sentiments.Another team worked off the Think Again campaign in the Badulla District today.
Their journey commenced in the Bandarawela town.
A major grievance that was highlighted here was the loss of land in the Thepalkanda area due to the threat of landslides.The team also met with a community of plantation workers from the Craig Estate.Their primary grievance was low daily wages.
People residing below St. Thomas’ Road in Bandarawela are facing major inconveniences in their day to day lives, due to improper waste management. Sixty five (65) acres of farmland in the village of Bandaragama in Etampitiya, are overgrown with weeds as a result of another broken political promise.
The anicut located above the village is yet to be repaired and 750 families who are dependent on agriculture, cannot find water for their crops.Our team in the Trincomalee district, commenced today’s campaign following religious observances at the Thirukoneshwaram Kovil.
Our team met with communities in several parts of the district, including in Thambalagamuwa, Mullipathana and Kantale.The News 1st Think Again public service initiative, which is prompting an awakening among Sri Lanka’s citizenry, will get underway on Tuesday as well.
