Kelani Armoured Cables obtains SLS 1186 certification

Kelani Cables Plc (KCL) recently obtained the SLS 1186 certificate for Armoured Cables. The company has a history tracing back 44 years in Sri Lanka and has grown to become a leading cables manufacturer in the region.

According to a statement released by the company, its commitment to nurture the hopes and dreams of their valued stakeholders to be “a world class company” is stronger than ever.
Over the years, the environment friendly company have obtained many awards and certifications for initiatives such as Quality, 5s, Kaizen, Iso 9001:2008, Iso 14001:2004 Safety.
KCL was founded in 1969 and is the pioneer in Sri Lanka’s wire drawing industry. In 1973, KCL was incorporated as a quoted public limited liability Company for the manufacturer of power cables, telecommunication cables and enamelled winding wires in Sri Lanka.
The company was a subsidiary of Pacific Dunlop cables group of Australia until 1996 and it thereafter became a fully owned Sri Lankan Company
The ACL Cables group of companies acquired majority shares of KCL in 1999. Since 1999 up to date KCL is being recognised as a fast developing cable-manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka.
The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) have recognised such performance driven companies and have awarded them accordingly.
KCL was bestowed a crystal award for having won the CNCI Achiever of Industrial Excellence Gold Award for three consecutive years in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and CNCI Crystal award winner in 2008. Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), the highest body in Sri Lanka where quality is concerned, awarded KCL with the most prestigious National Quality Award in 2006.
Where their productivity is concerned KCL have won third place in National Productivity Award conducted by national Productivity Secretariat.
The company won the Taiki Akimoto 5S Gold award in the all island competition as well as the manufacturing sector gold award in the year 2007 awarded by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA).  
At the recently concluded SLIM Brand Excellence Awards, KCL was awarded the Best Entry Kit for 2010 and KCL was awarded the safety award 2010 for being the safest workplace in the manufacturing and processing sector in Sri Lanka. This is an award given jointly after evaluation by the Department of Labour and Employees Trust fund Board.
