Speaker advises UNP MP Ravi.K
“Please admit your mistakes and correct yourself,’ were the words of advice that UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayaka got from Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa this morning.
The Speaker's words of advice came after MP Karunanayake accused the government of abruptly adjourning Parliament sittings around 2.30 pm on Thursday owing to the absence of opposition MPs to participate in the debate.
Mr.Karunanayaka was one of the MPs who were listed to speak but when his name was called, he was absent in the House.
However today the UNP MP objected to the manner in which the House was adjourned early but the Speaker pointed out the reason it happened was due to the lack interest on the part of the opposition MPs.
“You should know when you are on the list of speakers. It is the duty of the members listed to be present. If the person whose name is called not present, then we move to the next person on the list. Once the entire list is exhausted, the proceedings will come to an end. This is the procedure that is followed in this House and there is nothing new in it. The blame should be placed upon those who had been absent,” the Speaker said.
