Namal says too much publicity for "Rajapaksa's" in state media
MP Namal Rajapaksa told Parliament today that the overkill in the state media in giving publicity to members of the Rajapaksa family in their news bulletins only leads to negative feelings among people towards them.
Speaking during the committee stage debate on the Media Ministry, Mr.Rajapaksa said that he agreed with the comments made earlier by UNP MP Gayantha Karunatillake who referred to a state run television station which calling itself the “family channel” having become a channel dedicated to the Rajapaksa family.
“I agree with him. The first news items is about the President, then about the Speaker, followed by news about Basil Rajapaksa , then Gothabaya Rajapaksa and then sports news is about my brother Yoshita and I. This only leads to negative feelings about my family,” he said.
The Hambantota MP who is President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s s eldest son said that state media institutions should dedicate themselves to airing the views of all 225 MPs as well as the views of other elected representatives such as Provincial Council members along with development news.
