Sri Lanka to carry out energy audits in local industries
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce will kick start an industrial energy saving initiative starting from January 2012, in a bid to help local companies reduce energy usage, thus bringing down their cost of production.
Under this Rs. 4.5 million initiative, officials have selected 16 local firms which will initially undergo energy audits conducted by specialists in the field.
Among the selected firms rank, Brandix Textile Private Limited, Lankem Ceylon PLC, Phoenix Industries, Acme Packaging, Global Vynil Private Limited, GTB Colombo Corporate and several other firms.
The proposed audit will see the auditors carrying out a detailed Energy Audit by going through various details such as firm’s energy usage in the past etc.
The audit will be conducted by the Metropolitan Engineering, a subsidiary of Metropolitan Group which, once completed will provide an audit report for each factory with recommendations for saving energy.
Ministry of Industry and Commerce says, the indirect benefits would be the achievement of higher productivity and improved profits and bottom line to participating firms.
An awareness seminar on this latest initiative was held in Colombo during yesterday.
