Inquiry assured into MP Range Bandara assault complaint
Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said today that an inquiry would be held into the complaint made by UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara that he was assaulted in the MPs lobby of Parliament by UPFA MP Arundika Fernando on Monday.
The UNP MP raised a privilege matter in Parliament today saying that soon after he left the Chamber on Monday after speaking during the committee stage debate of the Ministry of Urban Development and Defence, MP Fernando followed him out and had assaulted him.
Mr.Bandara urged the Speaker to take action against the errant MP stating that this is not the first occasion on which opposition legislators have been man handled in this manner inside the Parliament complex by Government MPs.
“It is your responsibility to maintain discipline as well as assure that the dignity of MPs is safeguarded in the House,” MP Range Bandara said.
