The UNP is looking at getting former Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and former
National Organizer Ravi Karunanayake involved in the decision making process of the party after they lost their slots in the Working Committee (WC) following the election for office bearers.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that Jayasuriya and Karunanayake should be involved in the party’s decision making process since they are senior members of the party.
However, Attanayake told The Sunday Leader that the modalities on how they would be taken back to the party’s Working Committee is yet to be discussed.
“We have not discussed the matter, but the party leader is of the view that they have to be involved in the party work,” he said.
Jayasuriya and Karunanayake lost their posts in the party and their slots in the Working Committee after they were defeated at the election to choose office bearers to the party.
Jayasuriya contested against Ranil Wickremasinghe for the post of party leader and Jayasuriya for the post of deputy leader against Sajith Premadasa.
“The elections are over and everyone must now unite to take the party forward,” Attanayake said.
He added however, that there are some issues in appointing the two members to the Working Committee since they would have to be appointed through the party leader’s list removing two persons who are currently in the Committee.
“All these maters have to be discussed and decided upon,” Attanayake said.
