Large crowds extend wishes as Torch of Hope rally makes its way
Large crowds continue to extend their wishes to the Torch of Hope rally which is organised with the intention of mustering support for Sri Lankan sportsmen and women who will be competing at the Rio Olympics.
The rally, which entered its tenth day today, is organised by the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited together with News 1st ,and is supported by the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Education and the National Youth Services Council.
Day 10 of the Torch of Hope commenced from the town of Monaragala today under the auspices of Monaragala Divisional Secretary Upali Jayasekera and Superintendent of Police for Monaragala Anura Mapalagama.
The Brass Band of Mahanama College, Monaragala led the motorcade on to the streets where the locals were gathered to extend their wishes.
The Torch of Hope rally then reached Buttala, Wellawaya and then entered the city of Bandarawela.
ASP of Bandarawela, Jayantha Rathnayake and local politicians were among those present to welcome the Torch of Hope rally.
Students from a number of schools including the Bandarawela Central College, and locals, accorded a rapturous cheer for the Torch of Hope.
The final stop of the motorcade on Saturday was Badulla.
Provincial Director of the National Youth Services Council was among those present to welcome the Torch of Hope to Badulla.
