NAGADEEPA, believed to be an island visited by Lord Buddha is sacred location to us all. However, the lives of those who occupy this island, is not as wondrous as we see it.
The people of Nagadeepa face a threat in trying to collect drinking water to quench their thirst. Why? brackish water….
The island faces this crisis as the water they obtain from tube wells and wells tastes of salt. Even though the water they collect during the rainy season seems adequate, it only is for the few months that the rains persist.
“We can take clean drinking water from this well only until April. On other days, we have to bring water from far away. We have to spend about Rs.1500 every month for water.” said a resident of Nagadeepa
