Sri Lanka hands over licenses to nearly 60 websites

Sri Lanka today handed over licenses to nearly 60 News websites which are engaged in reporting news covering Sri Lankan Affairs.

The registration of the news websites took place following a selection process which also consisted of one to one interviews between the website operators and the Ministry Officials.

Ministry says the license will be valid for a one year period from today onwards.

Ministry of Media and Information requested the new websites to conform to the accepted media ethics in Sri Lanka.

Officials warned, if rules in the agreement are violated, it will result in the cancellation of the license provided to the particular news website.

Sri Lanka is also planning to charge a fee from the registered websites.

www.news360.lk was among nearly 60 news websites which received a license.

Minister of Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella, Ministry Secretary W.B. Ganegala and Director General TRC, Anusha Palpita were present at the license handing over ceremony which took place this morning in Colombo.
